From what I could see on the map, Yongdeng seemed to be the only larger settlement around.
I figured it might be a good idea to get there before nightfall and then take a full day off tomorrow, staying in a hotel with a proper loo and a hot shower for a change.
So this meant some extra mileage to be done today:

Once I passed by an elementary school, and the kids got really excited, waving and hollering, some even climbing over the wall:
“New people 新人” – is what it said on that wall.
And that’s just what all kids are:
I’ve come to think: it’s probably not that easy to realize that one is only part of the old.

I had to walk well into the night today:
There were some regrets about this at first, because I had to pass out on a lot of possibly amazing landscapes, but then I found other stuff to play with:

At some point it started raining.
I put my jacket on and some old mellow tunes in my earphones, then I slowly made my way through the watery darkness:
Same old story: a hurting body harboring a joyful mind.

Jau, das ist doch endlich mal eine Wanderung, die sich sehen lassen kann – sehr ordentlich! Obwohl ich ja Kopfhörer und Musik beim Wandern von Grund auf verabscheue – das passt einfach nicht zusammen. Eine kleine nächtliche Tour hat auch ihren Charme. Ich muss ja gewissen Einträgen hier zustimmen: Die Kinderphotos sind echt bemerkenswert. Da könnte man ja schon bald ein ganz eigenes Photoalbum draus machen. Schön schön. Nur dann müssen wir ja morgen ohne Reisebericht auskommen – ob das geht?

was? Musik und wandern passen nicht zusammen? Ich bin ein absoluter Orchesterfan… ich hab dutzende Film und Spielesoundtracks. Manche davon passen absolut zum wandern!

Ich arbeite mich auch im Tagebuch langsam zurück. Die Kinderfotos sind ja leider nur da zu finden scheint mir.
Du spielst mit Perspektiven – das gefällt mir.
…und übrigens, Regen bei Nacht ist vielleicht nicht so angenehm aber die erleuchtete Palme kommt echt gut raus.

This valley you have been walking along for the past few days looks like a really gorgeous place! Did you have any idea it would turn out that way?
BTW, I can tell from your portfolio you have been to Sichuan.
I wonder if you visited the abandoned seminar at Pengzhou, in the mountains west of Chengdu? It was a weird place that you would have loved photographing, with an old church and a very tattered main building that looked like a late 19th century kurort. Apparently most of the church collapsed in the quake, and it looks like the main building did not fare much better. There are pictures here: http://chinadigitaltimes.net/2008/05/wedding-phot… and more on the BBC News web site. Some people were taking wedding pictures when the quake struck, so they got it all on film.
