phenomena
My hotel sucked – big time.
I think the least I could have expected was some warm water in the shower.
Grrrrr…
So anyways I walked around the place today, went to the market:
Looked here and there:
Waited for things to come into place:
Then I went to a certain Qinglongshan
Some folks were doing Buddhist chants in the park, so I took another video:
Then I ran into 61-year-old Mr. Li 李先生, a retired officer from the PLA:
We walked around together for a while, he showed me the different temples, many of which were undergoing reconstruction:
Among all the sites he pointed out, I found this one the most fascinating:
The old city wall, they say it’s from the Western Han-Dynasty 西汉 (206BC – 9AD).
…
Another thing – many people have been talking about weird colorful phenomena in the sky lately, especially before the earthquakes.
Well, here is a little one that I saw yesterday at 2pm:
14:04, to be precise.

Great "production value". Curious what kind of gear you use. BTW, I think your pics are extremely valuable. I'm not sure how many pictures of that quality are shot in the areas you're in… You should geo-tag them for future generations.
Florian
Erster!

Mal wieder: gute Erholung
Florian
Alfredo
Than Han-dinasty tower is amazing! The way it is surrounded by taller buildings is so weird, and that lurid pink thing sitting next to it! BTW, did you notice that there seems to be a blanket or tarp laid out at the top of the tower? I wonder if someone has access to it and uses it in some way…
Christoph
Christian: Thanks chief. In fact I geo-tagged almost all of them, just download the GE-file in the "links" section!
Barry: Ein Schranz-Fan?
Alfredo: Yes, there seems to be a door carved out from the base of the poor tower. Maybe there are people living in that thing?
Barry
Meinst Du vielleicht Mucke vom Komponisten Schranz?

On your blog today you wrote about a atmospheric optical phenomenon in the sky. Quote:
"Another thing – many people have been talking about weird colorful phenomena in the sky lately, especially before the earthquakes."
This is most likely a circumhorizon arc, it's one of many types of atmospheric halo phenomena caused by sunlight reflecting off high altitude ice cloud particles. For this paticular one to be visible the sun needs to be high in the sky at noon in the summer.

Very nice observation!
Christoph
Björn: Thanks chief, and welcome to the way!
