This post is about a day of rest at the Motel Ihtiman. I wash some of my socks, I check out a supermarket, and I order an expresso.
I was staying at the Motel Ihtiman. It was a highway rest area, which meant that it was a wee bit expensive. But there was an attached supermarket, a café, and a canteen, which was good because I was trying to move as little as possible and regain some of my strength.
the rest routine
The first thing I did was I got out my plastic bowl and washed several pairs of my socks. I hung them up everywhere in the room, hoping that they would dry until the next day. Then I made a backup of my recent footage on the computer.
I felt bad because I was more than a month behind on my blog at this point, but I had decided to put that off until I would eventually feel bored in Frankfurt. And so, deciding that I was done with my duties for the day, I put on my flip flops and went downstairs to have breakfast.
I ordered a bowl of soup and some bread.
Then I checked out the supermarket. Among other things it had a wide variety of liquor, some football-themed cookies from Germany, and a bunch of Rambo knives, baseball bats, and hatchets. I wondered what that said about the mindset of Bulgarian drivers, given that this was a highway rest area. Then I decided it was better to not think about it.

After a lunch of beans and bread I walked over to the café and ordered an expresso. It was the usual dialogue:
Hello, one expresso please!
“One espresso?”
Yes, one expresso, thank you!
The lady at the counter looked at me funny, but in the end she smiled, and when I put my thermos on the counter, she gave me some hot water.
And then I sat there, in the café of the highway rest area, drinking my expresso among the other drivers, looking out of the window at their cars, and I felt almost like I belonged here, among them, as if I was one of them.
