I had just found out the Olympic Torch Relay was scheduled to pass through Jiayuguan on July 6th. That was…tomorrow!! So I had to be quick!
…I rushed past the wonders of suburban construction:
I swept past the gorgeous mountain scenery:
There was a piece of the Great Wall somewhere in the eastern part of the city, but I just snapped a pic and then I was on my way again:
There were flags everywhere:
Street vendors were clogging the whole place with their souvenirs:
Everyone seemed so excited about the big event tomorrow:
…all the big ones:
…and especially the little ones:
All the hotels were completely booked, except for Jiayuguan Hotel 嘉峪关宾馆, where the rent was very high.
Well, what could I do?
Most of the cops were staying there as well, so at least the place was probably extremely safe:
I went straight up to my room, took a shower and ordered some food.
Then I looked out the window, and there it was, the city of Jiayuguan, laying peacefully in the desert.
So many little children laying in their beds, their hearts beating…
…waiting for tomorrow’s big event.
