This is a post about how I went fashion shopping in Abana. I ended up getting a wool hat that said KING and a bandana.

I woke up clean. My body and my clothes: clean. My hair and my beard: also clean. I was in a room with a white bed. The receptionist had said that there was supposed to be a breakfast buffet downstairs. But mostly it was the cleanliness that made me feel like a king.

The hotel was as huge as it was empty. Abana is one of those beach towns that are crowded during summer and sleepy during the off-season. I stayed in my room most of the day. There were photos and videos to be sorted through, blog posts to be typed up, GPS-tracks to be compiled.

why didn’t I pack a wool hat?

When I went out for dinner, I decided to do some fashion shopping. The night in the school building had reminded me that I didn’t have anything to put on my head when it got cold. Carrying a wool hat was a no-brainer during this season, but I had somehow forgotten to pack one.

And so I went to a little shop and tried on a few hats. In the end, I liked one that said KING. I had seen a similar hat on an old man in the hills before, and I remember internally commending him for his confidence. Now I, too, was in the club of kings.

The second hat that I got was a weird tube-like bandana thing that made me look like Marge Simpson when I stuffed all my hair into it. I laughed for a few minutes straight when I saw myself with it in the mirror. Then I bought it. It could also be worn as a scarf.

I saw a new program in Discovery Asia – 18 wheels across Vietnam.
I think they tried to copies your way of travel. I can feel a bit of spirit from The Longest Way. Of course, they are on 18 wheels…..
Chris, keep walking slowly… No Rush. Enjoy the moment, MAN!
