People from all over Iran had been telling me about this province where I was right now – Gilan. “The food!” they had said, painting greatness into the air with their hands. “The nature!” And sometimes, with a sly smile: “The women!”

And yes, Gilan seemed like a good place.

I slept under a mosquito net outside on the verandah:

I spent my time reading, sorting pictures, and making a visa for Azerbaijan, the next country on The Longest Way.

And I ate the best meals:

The people seemed to be quite right in their admiration of Gilan.
