There is a young Chris in me somewhere who thinks that walking should just be from point A to point B. That there should be no intermissions and no trips off the chosen route. None, ever.

It’s the same Chris who walked from Paris to Bad Nenndorf in the summer of 2003, without ever stopping or resting for more than one night. But by now he has been overwhelmed by necessities like visa, work and family.

So today I got on another airplane:

I had spent the New Year in Astana, and now, with a letter of invitation in my hand, I was ready to apply for a new visa for Uzbekistan, which I could only do in Almaty.
