This post is about a blackout at an internet café in Yuci. I decided to sit and wait until the power comes back.

Nothing happened today. Or rather: not much happened.

I got up late, brushed my teeth, and stepped into the hotel hallway. There was a poster of a handsome couple making love on a beach at sunset. For a second I wondered what kind of hotel this was, but then I decided to drop the thought. It didn’t matter. A bed was a bed.

to the internet café!

I ate some food and went to an internet café in the neighborhood. It was basically just a large windowless room full of computers and people. Most of them seemed intent to stay all day, and I became one of them:

The others were mostly gamers. For me it was different. I had come because I needed a stable internet connection in order to upload my photos to the blog.

power off

At around three in the afternoon the computers and the lights went down. There was some booing and hissing, upon which a manager appeared and told us that there was a problem with the power lines. Nothing worse than a blackout at an internet café in Yuci. And yet here we were.

A lot of people put down their headphones and got up and left. I was happy for them – they would see the sun for the first time in hours, maybe days. Others decided to wait.

I was among the latter. I found a spot with some light and sat down to clean my camera lenses.

After a while the power came back on. Computer screens flashed, headphones were put on, and within just a few minutes the place looked exactly as it had before the blackout.

Such was life.

PS: just as I am writing this post the hotel where I’m staying at went dark as well. Time to sleep.

No more wise-cracking.
